The Rotary Club of Langley Central received its charter from Rotary International on December 24th, 1980. The club works to fulfill Rotary International's mission, both locally and internationally: "to promote service to others, to promote high ethical standards and to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.
The club has been active in the community contributing significant funding to construct and maintain bridges and trail systems in the Rotary Nicomekl Park. Major financial contributions have been made to the Langley Memorial Hospital, the Ishtar Transition House, the Langley Community Music School, to name a few. In the Rotary Centennial year The Rotary Club of Langley Central was a major contributor to the Rotary Fieldhouse in McLeod Park.
Innumerable donations have also been made in support of groups and organizations in the community.
The club provides scholarships to grade 12 graduates and sends students to the Adventures in Citizenship program in Ottawa.
Significant financial support has also been given to crime prevention programs such as PRIDE and DARE. Part of our yearly giving is to provide Christmas hampers to families in the Langley area. Members of the club, through personal contributions and fundraising activities, contribute generously to the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Langley Central with the assistance of the Rotary Foundation has funded a number of projects in underdeveloped countries. The club has sponsored short and long-term youth exchange projects and supported students studying abroad through the Ambassadorial Scholarship programs of the Rotary Foundation.
